Angels Envy 6x6 oil

This bottle has angel wings printed on the back. Angels Envy is charred in oak barrels and then finished in port wine barrels which gives it an uncommon taste.  Their rye is finished in rum barrels.

Red Tulips 6"x6" oil

We in Louisville KY are taking this as a hopeful sign of spring even though it was spitting snow today. We have not had as bad a winter as the east coast has had but we have had our share of  cold and are ready for spring and warmer weather.   My students brought these tulips from their garden to paint in class and left them so I could paint them and I did.   Spring is around the corner even though it is going to be 20° tonight.

Waiting to dance 11"x14" oil

This red dress is always fun to paint with its yards of netting, tons of sequins and ruffles.  It was fun to be loose on this painting.   I decided to put her off center to make the composition more interesting.

White hydrangeas 8"x8" oil

Thought I should paint these before they started to wilt.   I painted the whole thing while squinting (which helps me keep my youthful wrinkled look) because it helps to view the subject without all the details and prevents getting too nitpicky.

Maker's close up 6"x6" oil

Someone emailed this bit of information to me, that there are more barrels of bourbon in storage in Kentucky right now, 4.7 million to be exact and that surpasses the population in Kentucky which is 4.3 million.   We could each have our own barrel but then ya'll wouldn't get yours and I guess that just wouldn't be rite... or right, as you would say it.

A little bit of Maker's 6"x6" oil

This is a staple in most liquor cabinets including mine.   I live in Kentucky within 60 miles of the largest  bourbon distillers in the world so it is understandable that we take our bourbon seriously or at least with a cube of ice.

Pappy Van Winkle 20 year 6"x6" oil

Thought I would do a few bourbon paintings so I would have them on hand at the Cherokee Art Fair this year.   I have started with one that I have on my shelf, Pappy Van Winkle 20 year.

One on pointe 8"x8" oil

There are several things I love about this one: the large shadow in the background, the contrast of the cool shadow and warm shoe color, and the way the ribbon disappears in the shadow.  Those three things excited me and was the driving force behind it all.

Daydreaming 16"x20" oil

I worked the color around the canvas by using colors in the background that I had used in the subject.   It unifies the painting.

One on top 8"x8" oil

What can I say... more ballet slippers.    I did light it so that the shadows in the background and off the ledge were cool in color.
