"Serving it up" 6" x 6" oil

I worked so hard at trying to NOT overwork this one.   ARRRRG!   I painted it yesterday and thought it look fine but when I went to post at the end of the day it just did not look worthy.   So today I reworked every square millimeter!   Is that called overworking?  Maybe, but it does look better.
I am over it.

"Silverware toss" 6" x 6" oil

I am building up my painting stash to sell at the Cherokee Art Fair this Spring.    I also wanted to practice on my silverware skills.   I am liking my looser style.

The curly purple one 6"x 6" oil

Brought these irises in just before it started to rain.   This deep purple one is my favorite because of the dark rich color and has curly petals.  (I'm sure there is a name for it besides the "curly purple one".)

Ballet shoes cropped 6"x6" oil

I like cropping close.    It felt like I was painting an abstract.   Painting the ribbons is my favorite part.

Ballet shoe sole 8"x8" oil

It is amazing to me that they don't wear these shoes very many times and they have to put so much work into them before they wear them like roughing up the leather sole and sewing on all the ribbons and elastic.    I cannot imagine wearing them.   You can give someone a concussion with the toe of the shoe.

Sugar Sugar Teapot 18" x 18" oil

My painting style has changed over the course the last 4 years, in fact it has changed in the last year.   When I recently looked at this painting from a year ago I was not happy with it so I repainted it to reflect my current painting style.

Dreaming of travel 18" x 18" oil on wood

This is a larger work, 18" x 18" on wood with 1.5"wood sides that are painted also.   I think of my daily small paintings as sketches and I believe some of them will work well in larger formats.   The compass is from my childhood when I would go to camp and we were required to bring our own compass.   I have no idea why I put the marble there... maybe subconsciously as a rolling stone.

Working a crossword puzzle 18"x18" oil on wood

You will notice that this is a larger piece, 18" square and it is painted on a cradled wood panel.   This is part of my series of larger works that are to go to a gallery.   Haven't selected the gallery yet but I am having fun working on the pieces!

Large hat 9"x12" oil

This was my third attempt at painting this pose.   Within the first 30 minutes I started over three times.  The model had dreadlocks so the hat does not fit exactly right but she looked great, I love the way the hat grazes the top of her head.  My favorite parts that I savored until the last were her hands.  I love to paint or draw hands.   The focus was on her head and neck so the simple or lack of detail and darkness on the lower arms are intentional.

Writing poetry 6"x6"

While looking for something in the studio I came across a box of items from my Great Aunt and within the box was this pair of unusual eye glasses.    They were two pieces of 1/8" flat glass that were held together with brass fittings and the side pieces hinged in the middle for folding and on the tips were round bakelite or amber discs.   There was also one of those old notebook journals that had some hand written poetry in side.   These glasses are the type that if the light was just right they would look like two white discs in front of the eyes.
