"Black Coffee, Green Cup". 6in x 6in. oil

What I really like about this painting is that the focal point, the inside of the cup, is the sharpest area which makes the rest of the painting slightly out of focus.  Just like when the object you are staring at is the end of the tunnel vision and every thing else is blurry.   The difference is that with the painting you can stare at the blurry bits!!

Thank you for viewing my art.   Sold.

"Finishing a Crossword" 8" x 8" oil

The process in which I get the crossword grid accomplished is so tedious that tomorrow I am going to try another approach.   I started this painting two days ago but got interrupted with a house matter.

Sweet sunny coffee 8"x8" oil

I can't believe it has been almost a month since I painted a still life!   Life has certainly interrupted my schedule.   It is so hard to get every thing done when your second in command does not pull their weight!     I am going to have to have a heart to heart talk with my Shih Tzu, Whirly Girl, because she is clearly taking too many naps.
I could certainly tell that I am rusty.   Making this an 8x8 instead of a 6x6 changed it some but I just used bigger brushes.

Working a crossword puzzle 18"x18" oil on wood

You will notice that this is a larger piece, 18" square and it is painted on a cradled wood panel.   This is part of my series of larger works that are to go to a gallery.   Haven't selected the gallery yet but I am having fun working on the pieces!

Black with sugar 6"x6" oil

Looking almost straight down on a subject is fun for me however it does pose problems in painting the set up.    In order to have this view the table with the objects needs to be right in front of me so I can then look down on the objects which means that the easel and the panel I am painting on is at arms length.    I have been trying to be more painterly in my approach but I could not decide where to mess up the brush strokes so I left it as is.   I did do a couple of small messy strokes.

Crossword puzzle 6"x6" oil

Working crossword puzzles was something my parents did all the time and when they were alive I worked them too.   My Dad was still good at knowing the older pat answers even in his last months of Alzheimers.   I worked them for a while but now that they are no longer around I don't seem to have the motivation.   I still love the idea of working it with someone else, the back and fourth.

Berries 'n cream 6"x6" oil

Sold
About half way through I started getting discouraged and had to step away.   After returning I carried on and was happily painting away when I noticed I was eating the berries!   This is what happens when your still life is within reach and in this case it was right below my easel.   I slapped my self on my wrist and told myself that I would have to wait until the painting is done.    That was an incentive to finish.

Black with sugar 18"x18" oil

This is another gallery piece that I painted today.  I try to keep these alla prima, painting them in one sitting so it retains it's freshness and plus I have really grown to love painting wet into wet.

The weather has turned cool here and the sky is overcast.   A very grey day so I guess it inspired this grey painting.
