Ahh, Coffee! 6" x 6" Oil

Coffee in the morning is one of my pleasures.   But I have found that I don't want as much as I used to want.   These days I only make half a pot and that is fine as long as get two cups.  Sunday I make it a little extra special and put in almond creamer.   Yum!  I am allergic to the Casin protein in dairy which makes me stuffy and can give me headaches and sinus infections.   Maybe some of you have experienced this.  I cut out dairy back in 1978, and there were no good substitutes at that time.   I used to put grapefruit juice in my cereal.

"Hamilton Beach Mixer" 18" x 18" oil on wood

This is a larger piece, 18" x 18" painted on wood with 1.5 " painted sides.   After painting this mixer realistically I was not satisfied with it so I decided to make a bold leap and put some interesting brush work and knife work on it.   It was very scary at first and then I really got into it!

Red, white, yum! 6"x6" oil

This red pot has been calling to me and even though it is for tea I could not resist using it in the picture. there is something about lining it all up that excites me.   The spoon sort of puts it in perspective.

Berries 'n cream 6"x6" oil

About half way through I started getting discouraged and had to step away.   After returning I carried on and was happily painting away when I noticed I was eating the berries!   This is what happens when your still life is within reach and in this case it was right below my easel.   I slapped my self on my wrist and told myself that I would have to wait until the painting is done.    That was an incentive to finish.

Sugar cubes are so much fun to paint.   Personally I like my coffee black but love the images and rituals of sugar and cream.    The shadow made by the sugar bowl looks like big ears.  Love that!

I normally drink black coffee but what a treat it is to have coffee with real cream.  Yum!!  I had to buy it as a prop and I couldn't let it go to waste!
