"Cheers to Champagne Grapes". 6 in x 6 in. oil on panel

These tiny little grapes are so sweet!   But alas, champagne is not made from these grapes.   But I couldn't resist putting in a glass of champagne.   And the red ribbon goes along with the festivities!

"Primary Present". 6in x 6in. Oil

I really need to paint more often and get back into painting daily so that I don't lose my skills!  Thought I would try using primary colors to start.   I used Quinacridone Red, Chinese Red, Thalo blue and Cadmium yellow light plus Titanium White.

"Pals" 14in x 11in Oil

These two Pals wanted me to paint a portrait of them and I said "I could with one condition, they had to sit still and not giggle!"  And to my surprise they were perfectly behaved!  This is larger than I usually paint but they wanted to be on a larger canvas, a 14 x 11.   They look so quiet and innocent but are actually very demanding!

"A Celebration" 8in x 8in, oil

All the cherries came out for the celebration but someone had already eaten the cake!   Now, they wonder what is in the box and will it be something for them?

"Cherry Visitors". 6" x 6" Oil

The family of 15 were staying inside when their friends visited.   All they could do was lean out and waive to their single friends and the cozy couple.

So glad Trader Joe's had fresh cherries this week!!

"Social Distance Hugging" 6" x 6" Oil

Blue went for a walk and saw his friend Pink and she wanted to give him a hug but needed to keep the social distancing.  So she just fluttered around.

I painted this on Tuesday and kept forgetting to post!!   I need to work on my follow through.

Little Red Dice. 6" x 6" Oil

When I look at this I feel that the dice is telling the ribbon a secret and the ribbon is absorbing it all!

"What's in the Box?" 8in x 8in Oil painting

What is in the box?  Maybe it is a new cell phone, a pair of tiny roller skates, a toy lawn mower, a necklace or bracelet, car keys, a new bed, a bowl of soup.      Which do you think is more likely?  Maybe it is empty.
This is an 8" square painting which is about 175% bigger than a 6" square painting.

"Red roses with a Copper Ribbon" 8" x 8" oil

As long as the roses last I feel I must paint them.   Here they are  with a copper mesh ribbon.  I painted it on a larger canvas which gave me more freedom of movement using larger brushes.

"Red Box with Scissors" 6" x 6" oil

The ribbon was tricky on this one.  But I persevered and finally got it painted!

"The Red Gift" 6" x 6" oil

This series has certainly been fun to paint and it is great to be painting again after a long time off.   I actually was hesitant to paint and felt out of practice which goes to show that you really need to paint often to stay in practice, to make bold strokes and have the confidence to do so.   I feel that my style of painting has changed a little, for the good I think!

Two steppin ballet 8"x8" oil

The background color today is so close to the ribbon color that the ribbon disappears in spots.   I could have used a darker color but I liked the subtle shift in color and it was a challenge to capture.

Ballet ribbons 8"x8" oil

The ribbons steal the show in this painting.  I was happily painting along and all of a sudden I realized that I should stop... it was done!

"Golden ribbon" 6"x6" oil on gessobord

Sold
Thought I would use the skinny golden ribbon again.   I see that it photographed too dark.   It has been so overcast lately.   We also had an ice storm last night, my steps and sidewalk outside was a solid sheet of ice this morning.    Such a winter wonderland!

This ribbon is some sort of copper mesh with wires on the edges.  Some how the blue background did not photograph as blue as it is.

"Surrounded" 6 in x 6 in

Sold

I think I have started a new series without doing it intentionally.  I do like keeping it simple by using one type of ribbon.   This ribbon is a sheer magenta with a thin wire on the satin edge which makes it hold its curl.  I like the addition of another object.

"Hello Kitty" 6"x6" oil on 'Ampersand gessobord

Sold
I thought this Hello Kitty Pez dispenser was a great addition to the ribbon.   This ribbon has metal wire on the edges so it can hold it's shape well and the gold fiber along the edge gives off a little shiny spark.   This was fun to set up and the ribbon was in about 30 different positions before I finally quit fiddling with it.   I like the way the light comes through the ribbon making a brighter yellow green glow.   Cool!

"Glow ribbon glow" 6"x6" oil on gessobord

To purchase please contact me. $100
Well as you know I have been painting orchids for over two weeks.   I was going to paint them until they died but I could not wait any longer they are taking too long.    The other day I painted a ribbon along with the orchid and someone asked me (and you know who you are) if I would do a painting of just ribbon.   So today I thought I would try it.  I love to do ribbon, how hard could it be!  Well I first cut three pieces of ribbon, mint green, copper and magenta and laid them all out, then rearranged them and rearranged them then eliminated one and rearranged them again!  After 45 minutes I settled on this ivory ribbon and took another 15 minutes to rearrange it!   Whew!   I did not think this would be so hard!   Any way here is my attempt today.
