"Hydrangeas in Bloom" 8in x 8in. oil

My hydrangeas bloomed big time this year after having some sort of bug or fungus for the last 2 years.   At first I thought it was the hard freeze but last year I realized that it might come back if I whacked it all down and let it grow anew.   And it seemed to work!   Yea!

"Pals" 14in x 11in Oil

These two Pals wanted me to paint a portrait of them and I said "I could with one condition, they had to sit still and not giggle!"  And to my surprise they were perfectly behaved!  This is larger than I usually paint but they wanted to be on a larger canvas, a 14 x 11.   They look so quiet and innocent but are actually very demanding!

"Family Gathering" 8" x 8". oil

The family is gathering for another celebration.   There is Grandma, the matriarch with her daughter, son in-law and her two grandchildren.  Then there is crazy cousin Eddie who is just in from the Himalayan mountains.  He loves pink.   Now who was supposed to bring the green bean casserole?

"Pink Daisies" 8" x 8" Oil

These daisies are so happy in the green blown glass vase.   I just could not squeeze all these on a 6x6 inch canvas.    I am going to offer it at a 6x6" price though!

"Social Distance Hugging" 6" x 6" Oil

Blue went for a walk and saw his friend Pink and she wanted to give him a hug but needed to keep the social distancing.  So she just fluttered around.

I painted this on Tuesday and kept forgetting to post!!   I need to work on my follow through.

"Threads" 6in x 6in oil

I bought a package of heavy top thread and the spools were so cute!  It is the Black on in the back.  I decided to put out an assortment of my threads along with my embroidery scissors.  I kind if like it.

Thank you for being interested in my art.

"Five Peonies" 12in x 12in oil on linen panel

I was going to paint my regular small painting but then got an urge to use my #12 hog bristle brushes so I decided to paint a 12" square!   The flowers are painted with the big brushes and bits of the background and vase are painted with a #5.   Used a palette knife on some areas.
Had fun with this one.

"Peony Duo" 8in x 8in oil

Working on my larger paintings for my solo show leaves little time for my daily paintings which are valuable in keeping my paintings fresh.  Finding these beautiful peonies at Trader Joe's gave me the longing to paint a daily.

"Hydrangeas in Blue" 8in x 8in oil

One of my students left these beautiful hydrangeas for me to paint.   I used the palette knife with the blue background color to keep the focal point in the light.

"Dressed in Pink" 14in x 18in oil on linen

This is a painting I started last Friday and finished today.   I worked on keeping the outer edges soft and detail on the focal point.   It is really hard to keep from overworking the painting.   I had to not be too quick to put the brush work on.

"Peonies in Pink" 8in x 10in oil

With my glasses off, I painted most of this painting.   The tricky part is mixing the right color, value without seeing the palette very well.  At least I could see where the palette was!   I had lots of laughs and finished it with my glasses on!

Fallen leaf 8" x 10" oil

It was a struggle painting this one today.   At first I could not get a good composition on a square format so I went with an 8x10.   The surface was a slick masonite panel with a layer of very smooth almost shiny gesso.   So at first the paint was slick and showed the brush marks.   After I had blocked in basic color/value everywhere it was time for lunch.   That was the best thing because that allowed time for the paint to soak in a bit and when I came back from lunch it was easier to paint on.   Next time I will put on a layer of grey acrylic before painting.

'Bunch of Ladies' 8" x 8" oil

Most of this painting was painting with my glasses off so I could capture the essence of what the flowers looked like.   The only problem with not seeing through my glasses... I can't see how much paint I am getting on my brush!   I guess I can't have it all!

Sneaky Ladies 8" x 6" oil

These flowers always seem to spring up over night without any warning.   I think they should be called Sneaky Ladies.  They could be undercover agents except now we know they are there!  These are always a challenge because on one stem there can be many flowers.  This is only two stems and there are 10 blooms and two buds so tomorrow there will be 12!

"Green with a little Pink" 6" x 6" oil

This pink bloom is so large that all it can do is hang over the edge.   I had it propped up on top of the other three and it was so large and looked too silly.

"Pink and Green Hydrangeas" 8" x 8" oil

The old hydrangea bush out front produced three blooms this year two were about 3" in diameter and the third one was 8"+ in diameter.   It is the largest bloomin bloom I have ever seen!   I painted the first painting with just the one bloom and I am not sure it translates well so I got a few of the light green ones from Trader Joe's.   I wanted to capture the warm pink/red glow in the center when it is lit.     My favorite part is the shadow it cast on the lower left, there are so many colors.

"Two Peonies" 8in x 8in oil

These are the last of the Peonies.   They don't last long enough.   I am still working on making my brushstrokes looser.    There are so many petals on these flowers and I probably painted one tenth of them.   I am happy with the vase and reflection.
