"Green linen shirt"

Our model rode her bike to the painting session and wore this lovely green linen shirt.   There is a lot of enjoyment for everyone during these 3 hour sessions.   So glad to be doing it again even tho it is every other Friday.   But I will take it!

"Analogous Figure Painting" 12" x 12" Oil

Last Friday I tried something new, well, new to me!    Atelier Dojo Austin (Texas), has open studio available by Zoom, so anyone in the country can see the model and paint along with others painting or drawing the same image.  I hadn't painted a figure in about 3 months also I wanted to see how it worked.    You join up at their site and pay $5 to join one of the open studio sessions and they send you a link and at the time of the session you join the group.

The dress she wore was a middle grey with black polka dots and the background was bright Kelly green.   I decided to make the dress a color that would represent the grey and choose colors that were close together on the color wheel, analogous colors.   Teal, green, blue/violet, with the skin tone, boots and chair being brownish.   I decided to tie everything together with the circle and not have the green bleed off which left her floating.    All was painted in about 2.5 hours.   I am an hour later than Austin and by 10:00 I was ready to stop, it was past my bedtime!

Atelier Dojo Austin has several open studios to choose from.    Check it out!

"Blue Shoes" 14in x 11 in Oil on linen

The model got into this pose and at first I was thinking that she was holding so much tension.  After looking through a viewfinder I noticed that the pose was so dynamic!    Love the position of the legs and arms so I made it all about that.   In the three hours that she posed, I sketched it in two times too large, third time was the charm.   I had to realize that the center of the canvas was the hem of her skirt, then it worked out.

"Dressed in Pink" 14in x 18in oil on linen

This is a painting I started last Friday and finished today.   I worked on keeping the outer edges soft and detail on the focal point.   It is really hard to keep from overworking the painting.   I had to not be too quick to put the brush work on.

Sunning #2 11" x 14" oil

I am still struggling with edges.   I just need to loosen up!!    I love the foreshortening on her legs and arms.   My favorite parts are her hands and legs.

Liz with crossed arms 9"x12" oil

Her hands looked so nice I wanted to keep them in the composition.   Just doing the head was not enough.  My favorite thing is the hands.

H.K. in an asian dress 9"x12" oil

I paint with a limited palette and when she showed up with this fabulous silk dress the two reds I had did not capture the color.   I had Cad. Red light and Alizarin Crimson and I needed Quinacridone Red so I added that when I got home.
