I love this hat from Mali, it's twining using some sort of grass with leather around the outside of the top and leather covered wooden rings on the underside for support.   I have had it since the 1970's and I believe this is the first time I have used it in our setups on Fridays.

Balcony 6"x8" oil

This balcony at St Simons Island caught my attention.   I love the shadow is on the wall but it really changed fast, I had to paint in the shadow first and leave it.   As I was driving down the street I had my paintings in the back window area and the wind  from the windows blew this one face down on the back seat floor.  Oops!

The top painting is the sketch I painted on site during the Laurel Daniel workshop in St Simon Island.  The second (bottom) painting is what I did to the painting after coming home.   I liked the sketch the day I painted it but after I got home I thought it needed something and one thing lead to another.   I may have over worked it.   I tried to vary the greens and add some highlights, and sky and so on and so on.

This was painted on the first day of the Laurel Daniel workshop that I attended last week at St Simon Island Ga.   We were at a fabulous house that had 5 different gardens.   This was a small informal pathway leading from one place to another.   I love the way the sun was coming through the trees.

St Simons, Brubaker Garden 9"x12" oil

Here I am on St Simon Island Georgia taking a wonderful workshop from Laurel Daniel.   Today we were at an amazing garden or should I say gardens.  They had a formal garden, a Japanese Garden, and Informal Garden and English Garden.   It was hard to narrow down a place to paint.   It really came down to where you could stand in the shade.    I did see a couple of snakes!   Yikes!   In about 20 minutes after I finished this painting the skies opened up and poured rain.   Hard to believe, we had such a perfect day.

It is not very often that a model will agree to do a 3 hour standing pose, of course it includes breaks after posing for 20 minutes at a time.  We draped her in a sheet and of course every time she wrapped herself the folds were different.

I am leaving today for a workshop with Laurel Daniel in St Simons Island, GA.   I will ship out sold paintings when I return next week.

White House room 6"x6" oil

The challenge this week on the Daily Paintworks site was to paint something related to the White House and they had provided a picture of a room and that is what I chose to do.   I wanted to keep it loose and eliminate details that were not necessary in order to show the essence of the room.  As always the painting looks better in person than in the photo.   I love the sunlight streaming across the floor.
