Long day 8"x10" oil

What I liked about this tree was the size, shadow and that it looked like a giant next to the smaller orchard trees all bathed in the end of day light.

Hannah in blue 19"x25" pastel

I have been wanting to do a drawing for the past month so today when the model showed up I decided to do a pastel which I consider drawing in color.   It is much larger than what I usually do on Fridays.   It was fun and my favorite part was her hair.

One blue two pink 6"x6" oil

The turquoise vase was a little tricky.   The light coming through was so intense I knew I needed to use a thalo color and I ended up using thalo turquoise.

Study in blue 8"x8" oil

This painting was my demo this morning for my Monday students so I painted it on a larger panel to make it easier to see.   I chose these three Hydrangeas that one of my students brought because of their blueish colors.   Put them in a blue bottle and the shadow is blue because of the reflection of the sky in the north light.

Four hands 6"x6" oil

Sold
Every Sunday Daily Paintworks posts a weekly challenge.   This week is my challenge on that site, click here for this information.
The challenge is to paint the hands simply. Capture the gesture in a painted sketch, paint in the dark values then add the light. Squint your eyes as you look at the hands to see the difference between the light and shadow areas. Keep those values as you paint the correct cool or warm "value colors". Painting in the overall hand shape to start helps to keep it in the correct proportion. Here are 4 hands to be painted on a 6"x6" panel making each hand fit roughly in a 3"x3" square.

D in her favorite dress 9"x12" oil

I worked all day yesterday trying to get my new email account to work.  Finally had a genius at the Apple store to do it.   Those geniuses are so clever!
The focus is her hair so I painted the rest softer.   I believe the color comes out better in a larger picture.

Pinky 6"x6" oil

My pink Hydrangeas are blooming!   There are never very many blooms because the previous owners planted it in the shady the north side of the house, but this year I really will only have about 7 blooms.  Darn!  When painting this pink and trying to get a bright pink I had to get out a tube of Quinacridone red which is not made from a mineral and therefore when you mix it with white it is brighter or rather a more clear pink.   For instance when you mix white with Alizarin Crimson it is pink but it is a grayer pink because it is from a mineral.   I find that many flower colors like Gerber Daisies are bright and you need to use modern colors like thalo and colors that are not mineral.  That is all I know for today!

Weeping willow 6"x8" oil

I decided to make this painting about the foreground.   I love the mix of cool grey lavender against the warm light green.

Sunny Kentucky day 6"x8" oil

This tree was all by itself and it looked like it was separating the different fields.   I love the way the sky peeks through and the coolness of the distant trees.

Apple shed 6"x8" oil

This was a very windy day at the orchard and my easel almost went airborne so I tethered it down with an auger and bungee cord.   I wanted to capture the dark red tree and the pink cloud.   Except for the wind the weather was perfect!

Red teapot with spoon 6"x6" oil

I'm a little teapot... or maybe not.    I started this painting on Monday and finished it Tuesday so I am not sure if it is a daily or a two-day painting.   I was able to take my dog to the Dog Park on both days which is most important in the four legged world.
