Sugar Sugar Tea 6"x6" oil

Sold
Getting looser and more painterly is a goal of mine.   This painting was fun to do and it is definitely looser than my usual work.   I hope I can keep it up and not get too picky!

Inspecting my marbles 6"x6" oil

Sold
It was fun to inspect my marbles today once I finally got them out of my head.   I realized that they needed polishing and dusting off and once that was done they looked as good as new.   After taking a count I realized that some were missing.

Dried rosebuds in green 6"x6" oil

Glorious marbles 6"x6" oil

Please click here to view purchase information.
This morning while trying to paint these marbles it became very dark outside and then the sirens went off here in Louisville.   There was a tornado somewhere here but not in the downtown area where I am located.   My little dog and I just looked out the windows and watched it all blow over.

Head Honcho 6"x6" oil

Please click here for purchase information.
The cherries knew that they had met their leader when they saw #7 because she looked just like them.  She was round and the same red color so they decided to call her "Head Honcho". They loved the way she moved around with ease and grace and they especially liked her mysterious tattoo.  What did it mean?  They were puzzled and awed at the same time.

Bill Fletcher Workshop Day 1 6"x8" oil

This is the result of my first day's painting experience in the Bill Fletcher workshop that was held here in Louisville KY.    It  was very informative and I am excited to be in the workshop which will take place every other week over the next three months.  This workshop concentrates on landscape and all the necessary steps including composition, design, value, color, atmospheric perspective and how to structure the process into three basic steps: block in, middle and finish.
Bill Fletcher lives and teaches in Lexington KY and we are fortunate to have him so close.   Check out his work here.

My cup runneth over 6"x6" oilo

Please click here for purchasing information
I could not resist putting the cherries in this cute little glass.   To make the light source side brighter I lathered the paint on with a trowel or to put it more delicately, a palette knife.  This latest batch of cherries are so large, red and shiny!

Laughing cherries 6"x6" oil

Sold
These cherries look like they are rolling around laughing at the cherries in the bowl, and maybe they are.  I painted this two days ago and forgot to post it so then I was going to post it yesterday, but I forgot then too!   I tell you, I am having some trouble getting back into the strict routine that I had before I left for two months.  Here is my somewhat flimsy excuse, I painted on a commission portrait yesterday and that took all my brain power.   My energizer bunny batteries must be getting low.

Cherry inspection 6"x6" oil

Please click here to view purchase information.
It felt so good today to just paint freely and I had to start with cherries which for me are so much fun to paint.   I wanted to start the new year with something positive and fun.  And of course I had to use my favorite magnifier.

Sunset in Cuenca 6"x6" oil

Please click here for purchase information.
This was the view of the old part of Cuenca that I could see from my bedroom everyday.   The sky was always changing.  I struggled with this one and still am not happy but the day is getting dark and I need to quit painting, so here it is.

Looking at traffic 6"x6" oil

Please click here to view purchase information.
She stopped, looked at the traffic and then crossed the street.   Now the dangerous thing was not the traffic but the sidewalk itself.  Seems they have these "ramps" (do you see the one in front of her?) on the sidewalk to allow carts and or cars to get up the curb, but while walking down the street you have to be super aware of these so as not to trip or slip on the slope.  Slippery slope indeed!   One day while trying to negotiate the people on the sidewalk and trying to look into store windows one of my feet stepped on this slope and slipped toward the street because the tile was so slick.   Sometimes I even tripped on the elevation.   It is very dangerous to look anywhere but where your feet are going.  This sidewalk is very spacious compared to some where you could hardly pass anyone coming the opposite way.  The person I was with slipped or tripped one day on one of these ramps and went down face first, busted his lip and head and now has a nice scar on his lip as proof.

Bethan in Black & white 9"x12" oil

Please click here for purchase information.
There was a very light turnout of painters in our Friday Go Figure group.   I hope we get more people coming because it would be nice to be able to continue our Friday sessions.  We had Bethan today who is an excellent model.   Thought we would do something in classic black/white/red.   Sorta like a santa suit but not.   That is what was missing!

Dos Llamas 6"x6" oil

Sold
While traveling in Ecuador, outside of Cuenca, we came upon these two llamas that were tied up in a field. As we walked closer the white one was eyeing us in a most suspicious way.   I personally was not going any closer.   Everywhere we went all the animals seemed to be tied up either in the fields or on the side of the road, and my guess was that it was cheeper than putting up a fence.

Foggy mountain view 6"x8" oil

Rearranging lettuce 5"x7" oil

NFS
One Saturday we went to the large market in Cuenca, Ecuador to buy some shrimp and let me tell you it was an experience to remember. There were so many sights and smells.    It was a maze there, we actually got lost.   These two women were rearranging their basket of produce.

Purple sash 6"x6" oil

Sold
Some of the women in Cuenca had two braids and some had one and a lot of them wore Panama hats which are really made in Cuenca, Ecuador.  This skirt looked like wool with embroidery on the  bottom edge.  They don't like their picture taken so I was always sneaking around trying to take one on the sly.

Eating chips 6"x6" oil

For some reason I did not expect to see these indigenous women walking the streets of Cuenca, Ecuador.   They were everywhere, this one had a small blanket on her head.   After three weeks of seeing this everyday it was starting to feel sort of normal.   The two in the store front were eating doritos

Green Dress 9"x12" oil

It has been so long since I painted and posted that I have forgotten how.   Finally, I have returned from Ecuador and what a feast for the eyes it is.   I took lots of photos and hope to be using them as reference for paintings.   This portrait was done last Friday and I forgot to take a picture of it on Friday and again on Saturday... see what I mean about forgetting!  I felt very rusty but I think it turned out OK in spite of it all.

Pattie 6"x6" oil

This was the first portrait I've done in about 6 weeks and I was a little nervous that I would not remember what to do and after a the first half hour with a couple of total wipe offs it started coming back.  But now I won't be able to paint a portrait from life for another 4 weeks!   I will be in Ecuador on vacation so I will not be able to ship anything out until after December 8, but should be able to still ship out for Christmas at that time!
