"Lavaski, three quarter" 30in x 20in charcoal

I used mostly a chunky vine charcoal on this drawing, refining with a hard charcoal pencil.   He is such a great model!

"KB reclining" 12" x 16 oil on linen

Here is a sketch I started yesterday and worked a little on today.  I am trying to paint technically accurate while keeping the brushwork loose.   It is like doing two opposite things at the same time.

"Orange Bandana" News!

Orange bandanna 14" x 18" oil

I love the way the cool light from the north windows collided with the warm light from a lamp.   The play of warm and cool were really fun to play with.

Reclining nude in green 14"x18" oil

With this painting we had her pose twice for a total of 6 hours which included breaks and setting it up.  Everything I have done of late has been alla prima, (painting wet into wet paint or all in one sitting) so it was a challenge to paint on it the second time on top of dry paint!   We had a warm yellowish bulb above her and north light coming in through the window at her feet which made for some interesting contrasting light.   I loved the foreshortening, one of my favorite things to do because of the challenge, I think.

Here I am in Tulsa OK, immersed in visiting and this is the first thing I have done that I can post!   Have I been lazy or what!!   You would think I was on vacation!   The Philbrook Museum here in Tulsa is a wonderful art museum with a lovely garden, it also has a great history, they also have a life drawing group weekly on every thursday from 6:30 - 9 pm.

 She sat in a beach chair looking at the waves in the ocean, listening to the seagulls overhead.  The roar of the ocean drowned all the memories of the previous day.  She was in the here and now, present in the sun...  the only thing amiss was that the sun did not move.
