Lazy afternoon 11x14 oil

The glow or rather the reflected light on her face and neck in this photograph of the painting is too much the same color of orange.   On the painting it has more subtle changes.   I used numerous light source settings but I find that reds do not photograph well.   Please let me know your suggestions on how to photograph reds.

History reading 9"x12" oil on canvas

When working with a busy, colorful subject I like to create color harmony by using the color palette all over, meaning that what colors are in the subject I also put in the background and when a different color is in the background I like to put it in other areas and also on the subject in some way.

Airmail 6"x6" oil

There are few things that are as heart fluttering as getting a long letter in the mail and a long letter from overseas is even better.   You can't wait to get comfortable, open it up and read it.   And since it is in your hand you can reread over and over.   Pull it out years later and read it again and remember...

Reading about Tamara 9"x12" oil

She is reading about Tamara de Lempicka and when I first saw this book in 1993 it inspired me want to paint.  I had been drawing only for about 30 years and did not have any interest in painting and then all of a sudden I wanted to paint!  And I wanted to paint like Lempicka.  Here is my first painting and you can see Lempicka's style.  I've come a long way.
