History reading 9"x12" oil on canvas

When working with a busy, colorful subject I like to create color harmony by using the color palette all over, meaning that what colors are in the subject I also put in the background and when a different color is in the background I like to put it in other areas and also on the subject in some way.

That is such a good tip as creating backgrounds can be more troublesome than the subject itself. I like that your model is studying history. I love history myself.
