"Reading Treasure Island" 8" x 8" oil

While searching for an image to put in the painting I came across this book about N.C. Weyth with the image of Treasure Island that he had painted.   The glasses are for reading the book, the coins are the treasure and the dice is for the uncertainly.

"Reading" 14" x 11" oil

There was a lamp on the table that glowed onto the book and table surface which in turn lit up her face.  I put a light behind her to make her hair profile stand out because what I like best about this is the face and hair shape.

100 small daily still life and figurative oil paintings by Claudia Hammer

While talking to someone about the book I realized that they were not aware of all the different subjects that are depicted in the book.   When I paint a subject I usually paint 5 - 12 of the same subject which I call a series.
In this book there are 11 series and they are:
Ballet shoes
Bourbon
Cars
Cherries
Coffee, cream & sugar
Eyeglasses
Flowers
Things you can eat
Silverware
Scissors & Marbles
Friday figurative sketches

MagCloud/Blurb did a wonderful job of printing this book.

Masked Twiggy 11" x 14" oil

Can you guess why we called her Twiggy?   Well we had to do something for Halloween and it was the best that we could come up with.  Click here for painting information.

I want to let everyone know about my new book!   Claudia Hammer Daily Paintings is a collection of 100 paintings that I have done which are my favorite. Grouping them in series brings out their similarities and differences and shows that there are many ways to compose the same items.   I have included a few of my Friday Sketches also, which are figurative because that is my daily on Friday's, just like the one above.  Click on the cover below for information and purchasing.

History reading 9"x12" oil on canvas

When working with a busy, colorful subject I like to create color harmony by using the color palette all over, meaning that what colors are in the subject I also put in the background and when a different color is in the background I like to put it in other areas and also on the subject in some way.

Reading a thriller 6"x6" oil

It seems like in this day and age reading a book is the old fashion method of reading.   Personally I like to listen to audio books while I paint, cook, sew... you get the picture.   Currently listening to Donald E Westlake's "Money for nothing".   My favorite of his books are the Dortmunder series read by Michael Kramer.

Charting a course 6"x6" oil

The denial of needing to wear glasses seems to be a common thing to do.  Finally after nearly two years of squinting I was on a photo shoot in Miami when I spotted this pair of glasses and I remember thinking that If I had to wear glasses this pair was going to be it.   They looked modern and actually cool!   Not my grandmothers glasses at all!  Now 20 years later my progressive bifocals are the first thing I put on and last thing I take off each day.   I feel I can't even think without them.
