I'm being followed! 6"x6" oil on board

The little green car has been in my possession for as long as I can remember.   It is a 1956 Triumph TR-3 Tootsie Toy and a little worse for wear but the wheels still go.  The Red car is a modern VW Bug and it's wheels go too and right now they are chasing one another through the fabric hills.

In a rut 6"x6" oil on board

A friend let me borrow her car, it's a little red VW bug.  Isn't it cute!  Although I think I have it stuck in a rut or maybe I'm the one in a rut.

Fellow artist Carol Nelson is teaching a workshop  west of Denver CO in the Rocky Mountains.  She will explore creating abstract compositions on a variety of supports using numerous acrylic mediums, metals, and collage materials.  Click here to find out more

Pink tablecloth 6"x6" oil on board

This table cloth was made by April Cornell which is think is sadly no longer in business.  Somehow this picture came out so intense!  Oh well...
There is a workshop that many of you might be interested in held by artist Carol Nelson.  You should check it out she is a fabulous artist!  I wish I could attend.

Red headband 12"x16" oil on canvas

Sold
The Saturday figure study group had this young lady posing today and since it was the second session for the pose I just had to fine a spot that wasn't spoken for.   I was pleased with the position I got.   I love doing profiles and especially ones that show the head shape.

Linen napkin 6"x6" oil on board

Sold
OK, I know I have been doing paintings of just fabric but this one screamed "FORK!"  My Grandmother made this tablecloth and set of napkins using a fine grade of natural linen and edged it using a heavy red cotton thread in a crochet buttonhole picot stitch.  Now this is a dying art!

Royal folds 12"x12" oil on canvas covered wood

Please contact me to purchase.
Severe thunderstorms moved through the area last night and this morning was dark and dreary.  The dark purple fabric was very dramatic but as I painted the day moved on and the sun came out and suddenly there was more detail in the dark folds.  It made a big difference in the way this painting came out.

Lemon folds 6"x6" oil on board

Please contact me to purchase.

This is a great small square linen tablecloth in a cool yellow color and the pattern you see is pulled thread work so sometimes it is dark and sometimes it is light where the light is coming through.    This one was tougher that I thought it was going to be.

Unadorned 12"x12" oil on canvas

Today is a spring surprise, it is late afternoon, only 48°, windy and damp so needless to say it is dark outside.   The  lighting for this one is a warm lamp on one side and the cool north light on the other.  The only natural light in my front studio room is two 9' tall windows.   I usually just a moveable lamp with a regular bulb which gives off a warm light.   I like it, it is simple and inexpensive.

Today is the Kick off celebration to the few weeks prior to Derby.   I live just blocks from the riverfront where the Air Show is and the largest fireworks in the country "Thunder over Louisville". My little dog does not like the noise that the air show makes nor the booms of the fireworks.   But I intend to sit out on my front step and watch the fireworks wrapped in a blanket.  Maybe with a Kentucky Bourbon for extra warmth.

Unescorted 12"x12" oil on canvas covered wood

Here is another larger painting.   This one was really fun.   The white fabric is scrunched up on a surface that is yellow.   However, the yellow glows through in places like an orange/pink which I found real exciting.   Well, exciting might be too strong a word, maybe intriguing is a better description.

Deserted 12"x12" oil on hardboard

This piece is larger than what I usually show, it is 12" square and painted on 1/2" thick hardboard.   This subject was the topic in a conversation that I had yesterday with someone.   So I thought today "Why not!"   I like fabric, I like drawing fabric and I like sewing.   It is in harmony with my past professions as a fashion illustrator, clothing designer and with the fact that I have been sewing since I was 10, so with all this handling of fabric why not paint it!

Using the corner of the surface just occurred to me today and I like the ruffle of the tablecloth showing.  It did make me a little nervous having the teapot so close to the edge.

Stacked 6"x6" oil

I couldn't resist making the pot wear a cup hat.   Don't they look smug and fashionable?  The cubes are trying to imitate them but it is just not the same.

Catching some sun 12"x16" oil on canvas

To Purchase please contact me.

She sat in a beach chair looking at the waves in the ocean, listening to the seagulls overhead.  The roar of the ocean drowned all the memories of the previous day.  She was in the here and now, present in the sun...  the only thing amiss was that the sun did not move.

Stacked sugar 6"x6" oil

To Purchase please contact me.
Looking at the side of the box it says that the ingredient is sugar.  What do they use to make it stick together in a cube?   Some form of moisture and pressure I guess or do they use glue and don't want to tell us.   Do they make each one individually or are they made in a large sheet and cut.   I googled the question and there are some pretty funny answers.
