M in blue sunglasses 16" x 12". oil

This is a model we use quite often and out of all the years, maybe decades, we have been painting him, this is one of the few times I have really captured him.    He is a dancer, an opera singer and all around great guy with a wonderful sense of humor.    Recently sold this painting and will miss having it hanging around.

Thank you for your interest in my work.

"Churchill Downs Derby viewer" 16in x 12in oil on linen

He wore his Derby outfit and doesn't he look great!   I sketched it in with a dark brown mixture with Winsor Newton Bt Sienna and Ultramarine blue and blocked the shadows also.   I love the way it turned out.   He wore a beautiful lavender woven suit with some raw sienna woven in.   I think the bow tie makes the look.

"Sunning #2" 20" x 16" oil

This has the feel of the sun, the steamy heat radiating off her and a day on the beach.

Thank you for viewing my art.

"White Sunglasses" 14" x 11" oil

This was so much fun to do for the end of summer.  I tried to keep the focus on the upper half of the figure by subduing the lower half.

Good Day Sunshine 6"x6" oil

One of my students left these Daffodils and two days later they still look good so I painted them.   Thought I would make it a study in yellow.   Some of the small changes in yellow do not show up in the photo.   But I like it anyway.

Souvenirs from Paris 6"x6" oil

These dice and playing cards came from a small game shop I came across while walking around Paris. The playing cards were so wonderful with their stylized illustrations of cats, it is my favorite deck.   I think I suffered from nit-pickitus today however it might have started yesterday.... my painting was so bad yesterday that the only thing to do was to wipe it off.

The better to see you my dear 6"x6" oil

Painted this on Tuesday and I totally forgot to post!   The shadows were varied from a warm grey to a cool grey but grey... dull grey.  I could paint it accurately with the right color value which would be a more academic traditional way but I chose to add color to make it more fun and visually interesting.

I see shadows 6"x6" oil

You guessed it.   This is not a painting of silverware... thank goodness!   I believe my fear of painting silverware is over, time to move on... to glasses!   At least for a while.  I have been thinking about eye glasses since last August.   I wanted some round tortoise shell frames and I have looked at many and have not found the right ones.   Going through my stash of old glasses I realized that almost all of my glasses are round but out of many different materials.    My favorite parts of this painting are the shadows.
