"Daffodils and Strawberries" 12" x 12" oil

Before I painted this I had visions of loose brushstrokes, almost impressionistic in application but got a case of nit-pickitus while painting even despite the larger size.    In the end I removed my eye glasses and painted what I saw which was not much.   I think it is an improvement.

"Bouquet of Daffodils" 10" x 8" oil

I painted a 6x6 of three daffodils this morning but it was so awful that I wiped it off.   Thoroughly disgusted I was going to quit and move on with other things today but I looked over at the large vase with the rest of the daffodils and they looked pretty fabulous so I decided to paint them on a larger panel.   After mixing my colors I took off my glasses so I could not see the details.   So now you know what I see without my glasses... a lot less of everything!

Spring in a jar 6"x6" oil

I had a hard time getting the paint thick enough to lay on the surface.   The new cadmium yellow had too much oil in it so I put it on a piece of towel paper to absorb the excess.   Once it was a little stiffer it worked fine.  I had to stand back from this to see if it was working.    They look like two best friends holding their own... side by side.

Amber vase 8"x8" oil

This is it...  the last of the daffodils.  I know, I know.   Some of you are are saying "Thank goodness she is done with that!"  Or something to that effect.   Now I have to really think about what I am going to paint next.

Two daffodils 6"x6" oil

The light coming through the blue bottle is my favorite part about this painting.  There are not many daffodils left and I want to paint them while they are here.

Daffodils... again! 6"x6" oil

The daffodils are almost gone and I thought I would paint them while I still have them.   I will have a booth at the Cherokee Triangle Art Fair here in Louisville Ky in less than two weeks and I am painting up a stash.. er storm.  I painted this as a demo this morning in my painting class.

Daffodils in triplicate 6"x6" oil

The daffodils in the sunny back yard have come and gone but the ones in the shady front are just now in full bloom.   I was not aware until now that they come in different shades.  The ones in my front yard have a very orange/yellow center that are different from others I've seen.  I decided to light these so the brilliant yellow stands out from the grey background, actually it is a white surface but the light is focused on the flowers so the background value is much darker.  The white is not bright because the light is focused on the flowers not the surface.

Spring is in my studio 6"x6" oil

Adding other things to this composition just did not look right to me.   I wanted to keep this clean, simple composition.  The challenge here was to make the blue grayish background on the left  match in value to the flower petals in shadow.   It took a bit of tweaking.

Good Day Sunshine 6"x6" oil

One of my students left these Daffodils and two days later they still look good so I painted them.   Thought I would make it a study in yellow.   Some of the small changes in yellow do not show up in the photo.   But I like it anyway.
