"Tea and Cookies". 6in x 6in Oil

As we go into the Holiday season the lure of sweets is so tempting and I usually give in.   These are chocolate chip and shortbread.    I am grateful for everyone in my life and for my health, friends and family.   I hope everyone has a warm place to go on Thanksgiving.

"Sugar in your tea?" 6in x 6in oil on panel

Polished my sugar bowl the other day so I thought I had better use it before it tarnishes again.  I like the way the shadows hold the composition together.

"Two for Tea or Tea for Two?" 6in x 6in oil

Have you ever felt like you have too many things to do?   I have been feeling like that lately.   I just want to sit down and take a break.... maybe a tea break.   I love these delicate china teacups that are rimmed in gold, they look so peaceful and calm.

Ok, that's enough of a break, back to work!

Red Tea 6in x 6in oil

I could have named this a study in white.  The teapot was a cool white, while the cup is a warm white and the background and shadows vary depending on the reflections around them.  I couldn't resist making it symmetrical.

"Red tea" 6in x 6in oil

This is such a classic little red teapot!    I love it!  The tea isn't bad either.

"Brewed Tea" 6" x 6" oil

I tried to be looser on this one.  Thought it would be a good idea to use the same items  but in a different layout.   Well, as you probably noticed, a spoon got in on the act.

"A Pot of Tea" 6" x 6" oil

Thought I would dip myself into this pot of tea today.   I felt like I had never painted before!   How frustrating!   But I think I pulled it off in the end.  Now that I am looking at it I see that there is no signature.

Tea, one sugar 6"x6" oil

The Dali Lama was here in Louisville speaking and teaching for several days.  He is such a delightful and happy man full of insights and common sense.   I was only one in the 14,000 that came to hear him speak.   Louisville has taken on the challenge of "Compassion".    I have been practicing it as I drive.... did I hear some sniggering!   some laughter!   Well, you have to start somewhere and that is where I have the least amount of it, and I tell you it is working... most of the time.   I am a new woman... who has forgotten how to paint!   Here is my struggle for today.

Tea with two cubes 6"x6" oil

Today I decided to make the cubes whiter than the white tablecloth.  I like the way they pop out.

Red tea bag 6"x6" oil

It was unintentional but I see now that the three objects make a triangle.   Speaking of triangles I am going to have a booth at the Cherokee Triangle Art Fair this weekend, Sat & Sun., April 27 & 28, booth #626, come on out and say "hi" if you live in the Louisville KY area.   Looks like the weather might be perfect and there will be lots of great art and food.    The next painting I do will probably be next week.

One for tea 6"x6" oil

Sold

I struggle to keep it from being perfect and nit-picky.  My favorite parts on this set up are the reflected lights in the shadows.   To me the discovery of painting wet into wet and being able to manipulate the paint and edges is what it is about.   At least this is where I am at in my art path.

Red teapot 6"x6" oil

Sold

Over the years people have been giving me paint that they find in a yard sale or paint that someone left behind so I have accumulated quite a bit of paint.   Since I use a limited palette there are quite a number of colors that I might never use.   Today I was thinking about what red I will use so I got out all my paint and American Vermilion.   I wonder why they call it American??

"Two for tea" 8"x6" oil

Continuing with my white on white paintings.   I could not resist putting in a bit of russet color.  It has cooled off here and this morning it was in the low 50's  so hot tea seemed the way to go.

White on white 6"x8" oil

Last Friday I took my computer to the Apple store because the disc drive was not working properly.  A new part had to be ordered and the first one they got in was defective so I just got it back today!   I have almost forgotten how to post.  I have been obsessed lately with painting white objects on white backgrounds.   I was wanting to put in something red in this one but stuck to my plan.  White on white.

As some of you know I listen to audio books while I paint and today I started reading or rather listening to "Seabiscuit" and when I look at the painting it reminds me of the jockeys.
