Grapes and pears 8"x10" oil

Sold
This is also from the Bill Fletcher workshop I attended this past weekend.   It was our last painting and a more complicated set up and we had a little less than three hours to start and complete.  So under the gun or should I say timer we painted away, laughed and giggled until the time was up.  Ding!

Vase with oranges 8"x10" oil

Sold
Day two at the Bill Fletcher workshop.   Here I chose to work on light and shadow, having a halo on the white object and keeping it painterly.   I think I did better on this one, we had almost an hour of painting time.

Two bottles 6"x6" oil

Carrying on with the theme of using only three colors (burnt sienna, ultramarine blue, titanium white) here is what came out of today's efforts.   The shadow from the blue bottle was not really that color but when you are doing this exercise you need to paint the color value not the color itself.    Most of painting is value anyway.

Three bottles, three colors 6"x6" oil

This painting has been painted using three colors, burnt sienna, ultramarine blue and titanium white.  At this point it really becomes a value study.

Wind Master 6"x6" oil on gessobord

Sold
This painting was done in response to Michael Naples painting challenge from the Daily Paintworks site.
The challenge was to paint the Zippo lighter that he had photographed using these three colors only, burnt sienna, ultramarine blue and titanium white.  As some of you know I have done portraits using those three colors so the process is familiar.  I chose instead to use a lighter I have which is a Wind Master using colored paper close to the colors in his photograph.  One big difference is that my lighter is not shinny but burnished and of course being a different brand the mechanics are different.   It was a fun challenge.
The printing plant where my father worked gave him the lighter when he left for the Korean War, he never smoked as far as I knew so the lighter is like new also he returned to his job when the war was over.   Worked for them until he retired.

The blueberry tumble, 6"x6" oil

Sold
It got so dark in the studio this afternoon that I had to move everything over to the large windows.   Painting was ok in the light but taking the photograph afterwards was a bit tricky.   The name is inspired by gymnastics, can't you just see them bouncing and flipping out and away from the bowl.

The Fedora 8"x10" oil on gessobord

Sold
A friend could not go to the Saturday open studio session so I went in her place.   The model did a great job of getting back into the pose and holding it.   We had a little trouble with the lights flickering on and off but otherwise it all went well.   The room was crowded with other artist and  few of them I knew.   It was a fun morning.

Laying low 6"x6" oil

The crowd outside was quite unruly, making noise and falling down in the street so the three decided to lay  low until the morning.      Side note:  I love this blue color, it is so cheery!

Hanging on 6"x6" oil

Sold
As the parade of excited cherries passed below they were unaware that there was one left behind in the bowl of confinement.   He was hanging on to the side and was going to lift himself up and out as soon as the parade had gone by.   He was so excited that he was soon going to be alone and away from the noise and commotion so he could take a nap under the oak tree in the shade.

Side by side 6"x6" oil

Sold
I love the shadow that the cherries cast it just seems to make them more connected. We don't have a barrel of money, maybe we're ragged and funny, but we're travelin along singing a song, side by side.

Partners 6"x6" oil

Sold
These cherries are very dark almost black so the only change in color is the reflections of the color around them.  I love using this yellow background because it is so sunny looking and in the winter we need as much sunnyness as possible.   I also like the cool of the white bowl against the sunny part. :)

Rick, charcoal 9'x12"

We had this tall young man today, he is my cousin's son so we figured he is my second cousin or was it cousin once removed??    Anyway he used to own my dog Whirly Girl so we will just call him Whirly Girl's dad.     I took WG with me today and she was so excited to see him and she proceeded to get filthy because the floor where we have our group is an art floor and all of you know what that means!   Needless to say she is getting a bath as soon as I am done here.   (SHHH, don't tell her she hates it.)    Oh Whirly Girl.... want to do something fun!

What a ride! 6"x6" oil

I love this little car.   I was going to title it Wheeee!  but I cannot use an exclamation mark on some sites and it looked funny without it.   The driver is quite a daredevil don't you think.

Red tail light 6"x6" oil

Sold

This is my version of Daily Paint Works challenge.   Click here to view the other entries or to enter your own painting.   Yesterday I gave a talk about my career in front of around 40 people who attended "Food for Thought", the luncheon held every second Tuesday of the month at LVAA, Louisville Visual Art Association.   The audience was great and they laughed at all the right moments.  Thank you all for attending.

Four of a kind 6"x6" oil on gessobord

Sold
This painting was produced because of a daily challenge by carol marine. The challenge was to paint each quarter of the canvas in 10 minutes using the same object, thus taking 40 minutes for the whole thing. Hopefully getting better each time. It was fun!

Rick 8"x10" oil on gessobord

Sold
Our model today was a young man who had never modeled before and let me tell you, for being inexperienced he did a fabulous job of sitting still, getting back into the pose and never complaining that his leg was asleep.

"I vant to be alone" 6"x6" oil on gessobord

Sold
I am always telling my self to simplify, simplify so today I used only one cherry and a white tablecloth.   Well, I guess if I really wanted to be simple I would have made the tablecloth flat with no folds.   But wouldn't that be boring.

The conspiracy 5"x7" oil on gessobord

I have been feeling that it is time to move on from the marble series.   I got these cherries last Saturday at the Grocery and the bag says they are from Chile.   I have eaten some of them and they are pretty tasteless so I plan on using them for painting.
