Town Branch Bourbon 6"x6" oil

Please click here to view pricing information.

This is my favorite bottle, I love the square shape!   I love square paintings too so maybe I'm just square.  The Town Branch website (click here), has the interesting history bourbon, going all the way back to the Scots.   Below are some interesting facts:
Whiskey (the abbreviation of uisce beatha) is Gaelic for "water of life."
Whiskeys are rated in four ways:
1. The nose - the aroma.
2.  The taste - its arrival on the palette. (the tongue not the painting palette)
3.  The finish - how much residue is on the palette, it will tell you a lot about the aging process.
4.  The balance of the flavors, the caramels, the woodiness, and how they all come together.
Town Branch Whiskey is a bourbon from the first distillery to be inducted into the Kentucky Distillers Association since 1880.
Town Branch is named after the Town Branch River in Lexington, KY.  Within one year of the founding of Lexington the James Pepper Distillery was established in 1780, quickly followed by other distilleries such as Henry Clay, Henry Gilbert & Co., Ashland Distillery Co., and William Tarr was set up in 1879.   Little did they know that it would be over 100 years for the Lexington Distilling Co. to be founded.

Eagle Rare Bourbon 6"x6" oil

Sold

Eagle Rare Bourbon is aged no less than 10 years and each barrel is discriminately selected.   It offers consistent flavors but with an individual personality from each unique barrel.  They do make a 17 year old as well and both have won numerous awards.  Check out this link for more information.
I was thinking on all previous bourbon paintings that the white background was the best for showing off the wonderful amber glow coming through the bottle but I tried this blue and it was good too!

Bourbonball 6"x6" oil

Sold
In the book "The Kentucky Bourbon Cocktail Book" by Joy Perrine and Susan Reigler there is a wonderful award winning BOURBONBALL reciepe (Tuaca Cocktail Contest, 2001, First Place).  This drink is the signature drink for Jack's Lounge here in Louisville KY.   1 part Woodford Reserve, 1 part Tuaca, 1 part dark creme de cacao.   Combine, shake over ice, and strain into a chilled martini glass.  Garnish with a strawberry on the rim.   Well, don't you know this drink evaporated as soon as the painting was done.   This is definitely going to be in my drink collection!

Gentleman Jack 6"x6" oil

Sold
All bourbons are whiskey but not all whiskeys are bourbon.   Gentleman Jack is not a bourbon but a smooth Tennessee Whiskey made by the Jack Daniels distillery which is owned by Brown-Forman.  This whiskey is the only one in the world to be charcoal mellowed twice giving it ultimate smoothness.

"Opera cakes" 6"x6" oil on gessobord

Sold

This sure is one wet and gloomy Derby day.   The weather man says it is 67° but my meter reads 63° and with the rain I sure am glad I'm not at the track.  Walked over to Cake Flour this morning with my hot pink umbrella and got these two luscious little cakes.   The one marked "opera" is dark chocolate with hazelnut creme and the other one is dark chocolate with raspberry creme.   Just think of me eating this cake at the Derby post time this Saturday afternoon.  (I'm going to exercise extra hard before so I can indulge.)

"Tarts!" 6"x6" oil on gessobord

SOLD
Can you believe it this is painting #300, soon it will be a year since I started this daily thing.

These little tarts at Cake Flour have been beckoning me for a few days.  The one with the chocolate crust is passion fruit, the red one is raspberry and the yellow one is lemon curd (hint, hint, citron).  They are one serving each and are just so cute all dressed up and ready for a party!   Also delicious!

"Yum! Butter Creme!" 6"x6" oil on gessobord

SOLD
It was cold and rainy when I walked over to Cake Flour this morning to get my painting subjects.    One of my favorites was there, a Spiced Sandwich Cookie, two fruit & nut cookies with ginger butter creme between.   The ginger flavor was exquisite!  The other was a Bourbon Carmel Cupcake, a chocolate cupcake with bourbon carmel butter creme icing!   This is the week preceding the Derby race and they have lots of wonderful and beautiful things to order for that derby celebration!

"Vegan Treats" 6"x6" oil on gessobord

To purchase, please contact me. $100

Sunday morning Cake Flour had these wonderful looking vegan treats so I thought I'd try them.  One was a blueberry scone and the second was raspberry almond muffin baked in this fabulous paper wrapper that resembled origami.  Both were delicious and moist with lots of berries.  You know how best laid plans go....that was my Sunday.  The worst part was that I could not consume the treats until I finished my painting on Monday, today!   It was worth the wait.   Who says I don't have will power?

"Cheesecake" 6"x6" oil on gessobord

Sold
Cake Flour makes these individual small cheesecakes that are beautiful to look at and delicious to eat.   Today's was a cheesecake that had cherries in the middle.   I used a glass plate that was my grandmother's because I liked the reflection the cake made.   Along with the layout composition I always think about the color scheme, turquoise, yellow and purple are complementary colors it you use the Munsell color wheel.

"Sin-namon Roll" 6"x6" oil on gessobord

Sold

The model did not show up today for our "figure group" so I stopped by the bakery on my way home and purchased this cinnamon roll to paint. (that is my excuse anyway)  I must say that what Cake Flour does is very sinful, tempting us every day with delicious pastry.  I exercised especially long today.

"Quiche Magnifique!" 6"x6" oil on Ampersand Gessobord

To purchase, please contact me. $100

When I arrived at Cake Flour today they still had some quiche du jour left and today's it was cheddar/kalamata olive.  Very yummy!!  The hardest part is not painting it, but having to paint it before I can eat it!   I had it for lunch and every bite was absolutely delicious!  I love the fact that it is savory and creamy.

Often after taking the picture and cropping it on the computer I notice something that I need to touch up or a spot I missed.   It is amazing to me that these things are not as noticeable to me when looking at the painting.

"Hard pill to swallow" 6"x6" oil on canvas

Available for $100, contact me.

The other day I posted a painting of an old torch (Rudolph) and asked anyone if they could see the reindeer.   A number of you saw the reindeer, some of you didn't and one of you saw a chicken on a fence.   So now I think it is a chicken on the fence and I should rename it.   Any suggestions?  I also didn't know what the torch was or did.    A friend emailed and said it was used for melting solder and lead as well as heating materials to be less brittle to curve.   It was fueled with gasoline and extremely hazardous.   I don't think I'll be using it any time soon.
