"1950 Ford" 5"x7" oil on canvas

Sold

We had a Ford like this when I was young except ours was a lighter baby blue color.    We saw this car at the hot rod show here in Louisville late in the day and a lot of cars surrounding it had left already.   But there was one red car next to it, do you see the reflection?

"1950 Studebaker" 5"x7" oil on canvas

sold

This model of Studebaker was definitely ahead of its time.    This particular one was driven down from Manitoba to participate in the Street Rod Nationals here in Louisville Ky.  I love the rough and tumble look about it, the red looks like primer and the flames are very worn.

"1947 Mercury" 5"x7" oil on canvas

Sold
This 1947 Mercury has been repainted but they did not choose a bright color or flashy flames or an iridescent paint they chose a beautiful, quiet, grayed out teal blue-green color.   Very nicely done.    Great old classic.

"1948 Pontiac Silver Streak" 5"x7" oil on canvas

Sold

This 1948 Pontiac Silver Streak was so beautiful with its pristine pearlized white finish and shiny chrome and the hood ornament had that red  running along side that indian head.   Simply beautiful!   The car was white and in the sun but you have to keep the whitest part the sun sparkle highlights.   Everything else was some sort of grey with blue or yellow tinting it.  Interesting study.

"1947 Plymouth" 5"x7" oil on canvas

Sold
Yet another two tone car.   I don't think I will ever tire of them.  This one had the deepest darkest midnight blue and I think the way it is painted brings out the car's shape.  Of course it has been chopped so it is lower/shorter than an original version.

"1948 Ford Anglia" 5"x7"

To purchase, please contact me. $100

This 1948 Ford Anglia Thames Delivery is owned by a Canadian that was at the hot rod show here in Louisville.  We talked to him a while and he said it was for sale at $20,000.   I think it is only a 4 cylinder but it sure was cute.  He said that Ford made them for the European market and that he had collected them because you could get three of them in a two car garage.

"1959 Cadillac" 5"x7" oil on canvas

sold

When I looked at this car I thought "Man, they just don't make cars like this anymore"   The cars designed now seem so boring compared to this one with it's fins, lights and chrome, seems they just put things on there for no other reason than amusement.   I love it!

Sold

This is another painting from the "Street Rod Nationals" show here in Louisville.   A '55 Two tone Chevy station wagon that has been modified.   The grill is different and so is the bumper.   It's a beautiful car.   I took pictures and am working from the computer screen image.   The color is just like being there.

This is another painting from the "Street Rod Nationals" show here in Louisville.   I have realized that I LOVE two tone cars.   The only one I can think of that they make now is the Mini Cooper.    Somebody in car design needs to get on that.   These cars are like spectator shoes.

"Old Ford Truck" 6"x6" oil on canvas

To purchase, please contact me. $100

One of my favorite things to do every August is go to the "Street Rod Nationals" which is the largest gathering of antique cars and trucks in the country and it has been here in Louisville Kentucky for at least 10 years.  I think there were around 12,000 this year.   I love the colors, I love what they do to modify them, I love seeing them in original condition, I love seeing the old makes and models that used to grace our streets and now this year they allowed cars from the 50's, 60's and 70's.   Man, they are beautiful!  Here is a truck that says "Millers Garage" on the side and it looks like it is used every day.

"Spoonful of cherries" 6"x6" oil on gessoboard

Sold

I guess if I would need to pick a subject that would be my comfort zone I would have to have cherries at the top of that list.   However, having said that, I also know that I cannot coast or put myself on auto pilot because on each one of these paintings I have to work and keep alert to make them look effortless.

"Wishing & Hoping" 6"x6" oil on gessoboard

Sold
Those two cherries are wishin & hopin that they will look thinner someday.  I chose the  green background as an opposite to red.  I love the way the silver cup distorts the images.  There is no secret as to how I paint the silver, I just paint the colors that I see.

The cherries are so dark so I thought a light background would be striking.   The darker green squares are some pieces of green vellum that I had in a drawer.   I like the geometric shapes and the two tone shadows.

I found these Keens on sale at Zappos outlet store here near Louisville.    Very comfortable!   Although orange would not have been my first choice.   This series has been a lot of fun to do and I have gotten lots of great comments from y'all but the only shoes I have left are black and boring so I guess I have to think of another subject to start on.   Hmmm, what will it be?

Retrospective show, opening reception Aug. 1, 2 pm-4 pm

"Dorothy, all grown up"  18"x24"      NFS  (Private Collection)
This was a painting I did for an advertisement of a jewelry store, Bailen Jewelers, that ran in the Louisville Magazine in 1997.   Dorothy, (from Kansas), is all grown up and no longer wears ruby slippers but wears ruby pendents.   Do you see the yellow brick road and Emerald City?

This painting is one of the pieces I have a Retrospective show, with an opening reception this Sunday August 1, 2 pm-4 pm at JCC  here in Louisville and it will run from August 1 - September 7.   The show spans 38 years of work and includes fashion illustrations, national advertising pieces and personal works.   If you are in the area I would love it if you could be there for the opening reception.

"Long, skinny shoes" 6"x6" oil on gessoboard

To purchase, please contact me. $100

My mother found these shoes at a small town in Illinois and why she bought them is still a mystery to me.  She said they were custom made for a nun who maybe wore them once because they look new.   These shoes were probably made around 1920 and are 12" long and 3" at the widest part of the foot and I can get my foot in them but it looks like I'm wearing clown shoes.   I would love to see the feet that fit them.

"Dancing Quilt" 18"x24" cotton, shoe buttons

Dancing Quilt    $1950
I have been working all day on a show that I'm involved in.   This is one of two pieces that I have in a show here in Louisville Kentucky at the Pyro Gallery, opening night is this Friday, July 30, 6-9.   The show is called "Women Imaging Women" it will be up July 29 - Sept 5.   It is a wonderful show and if you are in the area it is worth seeing.

The quilt here is all about dancing, with dance steps around the edges and in the closet are dance outfits for different occasions.   The clothes can be removed and placed on the image on the front.

"Old red shoes" 6"x6" oil on gessoboard

Sold

I bought these red Perry Ellis shoes in 1985/86 my first winter in Chicago at a great shoe store in the Loop between Randolph and Michigan Ave on my lunch hour. They were my first (and last) pretty, leather shoes I ever bought.  I have danced in them until the leather is paper thin on the bottom.   They are 25 years old, does that make them antique?

"Mom's accessories" 6"x6" oil on gessoboard

Sold

These John Jerro shoes and purse were my mothers and I believe she wore them to the Kentucky Derby around 1963.   These shoes are made with leather inside and out with a woven floral silk covering and being a 9 1/2 N I can only wear them for about an hour or possibility two.   Now the purse, they just don't make them like this any more, it is also leather with the woven floral silk on the outside with a green silk satin lining, a zippered pocket on one side with three pockets on the other with one pocket lined in gold lame leather, that holds a double sided green/cream silk satin coin purse and the pocket next to that holds a rounded mirror.  Mother gave me these about 25 years ago and I believe I have worn them twice.

"Spectator Docs" 6"x6" oil on gessoboard

To purchase, please contact me. $100

These Doc Martins are great for swing dancing.  I haven't worn them out, lots of good dances left in them.   When the paint is wet, black is hard to photograph and to see while painting because of the sheen but after it dries I put a wax matte varnish on it and it even outs the strokes.   A shiny varnish will do the same also. I will re-photograph this one after it dries   I don't use black out of the tube, I mix together Burnt Sienna (Winsor Newton) and Ultramarine blue together.   This mixture is very versatile you can get a good range from orange brown to black depending on how much blue you use.  I very rarely use black from a tube.
