When you mentioned how taking off your glasses blurred the colours, I had similar idea when painting outdoors - have a cheap pair of reading glasses that will make distant objects fuzzy - and thought that putting them on when doing an initial block-in in plein air may have same effect as squinting - but not so conducive to crows feet!
