"Tying her laces" 14x11 in oil

Today's experiment started with painting in a dark background in the shape of the image then painting only the things that were in the light.   I had to put in a lighter background where the dress was in shadow so it would show up.  It was fun to do.   I think it is good to approach it differently sometimes and break away from the way I usually approach a painting.  Of course it doesn't always work out but making the effort is always a learning experience.   One way or the other you learn something.

This is just wonderful - your reds are absolutely singing! And that yellow green seat is the perfect counter. What a great exercise.
