Sara S 8"x10" oil

Sara, a violinist, is a new model for us but she has modeled for other artist before.   I tried hard not to be nit-picky but failed.

Hydrangeas in pink & green 8"x8" oil

It is too bad that the hydrangea season is coming to an end.  I love painting these flowers.

Putting our heads together 6"x6" oil

Decided to go back to the 6x6 format to keep me from being too fussy.   I love the glow of the bottles on the wall.

Hydrangeas in the spot light 8"x8" oil

I put the light down low on the shelf surface.   I love the dramatic effect.

Lazy afternoon 11x14 oil

The glow or rather the reflected light on her face and neck in this photograph of the painting is too much the same color of orange.   On the painting it has more subtle changes.   I used numerous light source settings but I find that reds do not photograph well.   Please let me know your suggestions on how to photograph reds.

The curly purple one 6"x 6" oil

Brought these irises in just before it started to rain.   This deep purple one is my favorite because of the dark rich color and has curly petals.  (I'm sure there is a name for it besides the "curly purple one".)

Under the orange umbrella 11"x14" oil

This lacquered, oriental, paper umbrella I have used many times.   This time we lit it from behind which casts a warm glow on her right side.    I debated wether to include the dark chair back but in the end I thought it separated the umbrella glow and the glow on her shoulder, plus it gives the painting another dark area.   I like the cool north light in contrast with the warm light.

Sweet sunny coffee 8"x8" oil

I can't believe it has been almost a month since I painted a still life!   Life has certainly interrupted my schedule.   It is so hard to get every thing done when your second in command does not pull their weight!     I am going to have to have a heart to heart talk with my Shih Tzu, Whirly Girl, because she is clearly taking too many naps.
I could certainly tell that I am rusty.   Making this an 8x8 instead of a 6x6 changed it some but I just used bigger brushes.
