Marbles is one of my favorite things to paint.   I think it has something to do with the mesmerizing glow.  Also this magnifier looks like a robot to me.

"Orchid surprise" 6"x6" oil on Ampersand gessobord

Sold
When I looked around the studio this morning for something to paint I found that the orchids I painted a few weeks ago were still alive!   Hard to believe I bought them 6 weeks ago.
This is my sister's back yard in Port Aransas.  It was 75° every day and this night she had the hot tub (the round thing in the background) heated up with it cascading into the pool and a fire in the pit. It was beautiful!  There was steam coming off the whirlpool and pool.   We took a dip later, it was fabulous!   Below is my sister Cynthia and my dog Whirly Girl on the beach on Christmas Eve!!   Another beautiful day!   Thanks Cynthia for a wonderful time!!

Thought I would use the skinny golden ribbon again.   I see that it photographed too dark.   It has been so overcast lately.   We also had an ice storm last night, my steps and sidewalk outside was a solid sheet of ice this morning.    Such a winter wonderland!

"Surrounded" 6 in x 6 in

Sold

I think I have started a new series without doing it intentionally.  I do like keeping it simple by using one type of ribbon.   This ribbon is a sheer magenta with a thin wire on the satin edge which makes it hold its curl.  I like the addition of another object.

"Hello Kitty" 6"x6" oil on 'Ampersand gessobord

Sold
I thought this Hello Kitty Pez dispenser was a great addition to the ribbon.   This ribbon has metal wire on the edges so it can hold it's shape well and the gold fiber along the edge gives off a little shiny spark.   This was fun to set up and the ribbon was in about 30 different positions before I finally quit fiddling with it.   I like the way the light comes through the ribbon making a brighter yellow green glow.   Cool!

"Glow ribbon glow" 6"x6" oil on gessobord

To purchase please contact me. $100
Well as you know I have been painting orchids for over two weeks.   I was going to paint them until they died but I could not wait any longer they are taking too long.    The other day I painted a ribbon along with the orchid and someone asked me (and you know who you are) if I would do a painting of just ribbon.   So today I thought I would try it.  I love to do ribbon, how hard could it be!  Well I first cut three pieces of ribbon, mint green, copper and magenta and laid them all out, then rearranged them and rearranged them then eliminated one and rearranged them again!  After 45 minutes I settled on this ivory ribbon and took another 15 minutes to rearrange it!   Whew!   I did not think this would be so hard!   Any way here is my attempt today.

6" x 6"  oil on Ampersand gessobord
Things have been so hectic around here I'm surprised I have a daily at all.   Been working on some commission work and got a new printer that has a learning curve and a touch screen.   It is so pretty and shiny that I want to take it upstairs with me and stare at it in the evenings.   But alas, I can live with it seated in its stationary position next to the computer space.

#11 Bag, Large red velvet victorian.   $114
Yes it matches the sofa behind it.   The sofa came first.  You can view the details on my project bag blog

I love this inside linen fabric.  The corners have been sewn down to prevent the lining from moving and coming out when you take out the contents.

Detail showing the top contrast binding and the old button that is the clasp.

This is the bottom of the bag showing the six metal feet that keep it off the ground and also serves to hold the fabric to the board that is used in the bottom.

I hope all of you had a good Thanksgiving!  I ignored the studio for a couple of days and was surprised when the orchids were still there looking great.   It might be that the room is cool.  Each time I go to work on these I think I won't be able to do anything interesting but I fiddle with it long enough until something happens.  So this is my effort today.

"Green bowl, red orchid" 5"x7" oil on gessobord

To purchase please contact me.
It is amazing to me how long orchids last.  I was asked to talk a little bit about my lighting.   I work in a room with two tall 8.5 foot north facing windows.   Most days that is great light for painting, seeing my colors and so forth but today was an exception.   Today was dark, overcast and dreary and most of the time I could not even see what color I was putting on the canvas.  I think that is why the shadow of the bowl is so dark on the one above (now that I look at it... why didn't I see it earlier?!)   I had to set up a spot light for my painting and palette but most days I don't have to do that.   Now with my set ups I have two main surfaces that I work from one is an old hospital table that raises and lowers so I can get different heights.  That is where I do most of the ones I look down on.   The other one is a tall lie flat storage cabinet that stands 46" high and that is the surface that I use for eye level, I usually sit on a tall stool for either set up.   Now the lighting,  I use a regular bulb in a telescoping stand and I usually have the light low so it cast nice long shadows.  On the tall table I have an old desk lamp from the 40"s that is a goose neck.   I think the bulbs are 60 W and one of them is a new florescent, you know the swirly kind.
