"Shred-O-Mat" 6" x 6" oil on canvas

This was my mother's shredder from around the 1950's.   I use it every Sunday to make hash browns for my brunch.  It has five interchangeable blade discs that shred and slice.  Usually I have been painting smaller objects so on this one I had to be sure to get in the right scale.

Hi Claudia! What a neat idea fora painting. I like how your inherited potato slicer is "facing" the little red potatos. The potatos have alot of character and I can see how nicely you have painted them with "the fewest strokes" possible as per your write-up from the workshop you took with Carol Marine. Your color choices are also wonderful!

Thanks! I did a serious series of tool portraits about 4 or 5 years ago. In that group were two old mixers, one was my mothers. They might be in my website claudiahammer.com under Tool Portraits. I was thinking of that the other day when looking for something to paint.

I will have to check out the "tool portraits" on your website. How delightful. Tools are like little soldiers waiting to assist. Their gestures are very interesting and artistic!
