Deanna, 8"x10" 11/20/09 oil on canvas

I want to bring to your attention a very good artist  Suzanne Berry , she has some wonderful face drawings and painting that are wonderful.

Deanna was our model today.   Looking at it now I notice that it looks like her right arm floating.  I guess I forgot the surface it was resting on.  Oh well!   I think her positioning of her hands were particularly nice.   I might have concentrated more on her head, maybe even made it larger, except I wanted to include her hands.    When I start something any painting I always try to put a good amount of thought into the composition.   This is really a big part of the painting process.   Not to just start painting but to think about what you want to include and what to leave out and how to have a nice balance of space.

Beautiful portrait! The hands ARE so very graceful. The "hanging" one looks like a lovely upside-down orchid ready to bloom. Hands are so very hard to paint without looking "stiff" an unnatural. These are done superbly! Great job!
